Colleton County Animal Shelter

33 Poor Farm Rd, Walterboro, SC

Colleton County Animal Shelter is a very rural shelter located about an hour outside of Charleston, SC. They are at a constant state of being overcapacity. While their facility should comfortably hold about 65 dogs, they are usually sitting between 100-120. Colleton is so close to Charleston, yet receives a significantly less amount of support from the surrounding areas, unlike other shelters that are also close to Charleston. See our shelter tour video for Colleton linked below, and see their social media links to side.

Darlington County Humane Society

1705 Adoption Way, Darlington, SC 29532

Darlington County Humane Society is located in a rural area of South Carolina. Like every other shelter we visit, they are beyond over capacity. They frequently have to line crates up in alleyways, trying to avoid euthanizing dogs for space. They always need support.

Sumter County Animal Shelter (Saving Sumter's Strays)

1230 Winkles Rd, Sumter, SC 29153

Sumter County Animal Shelter has a nonprofit established with the shelter called "Saving Sumter's Strays" to help pull dogs to a no-kill facility straight from the animal shelter. During our shelter tour, we toured both facilities. While SSS had a beautiful, new building filled with hope for the animals, the animal control building was in really rough condition and still at max capacity which means lives are always at risk. This shelter and the SSS organization are both run with little funding and staff.
